On Wednesday June 10 we attended a celebration of life for our friend and member of our pack.  John was an Old Breed Marine.  He entered the service at the age of 17 in 1943. He enlisted as a private in the 1st Marine Division of the Marine Corp. He fought under the command of legendary Chesty Puller at Peleliu where his battalion was annihilated. His next battle was in Okinawa where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. At the end of the war he was part of a military group that repatriated Japanese prisoners of war from China to Japan. in 1951, now a SSGT,  again under the command of Chesty Puller, he was in the first wave of Marines to land at Inchon at the start of the Korean War where he would go on to fight in six more battles. Wow talk about a hero!

In 2018 John joined Wolfhounds Legacy and received his dog Mikey, who he trained with.  Mikey and John graduated in 2018 to become his service dog. A perfect union! MIkey adored John and kept him company and safe. He spent much time in the hospital with John and was also at John’s celebration of life.

It was a pleasure and honor knowing you! Once in the pack, always in the pack!

“We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts; not breaths; in feelings, not in figures on a dial.  We should count time by heartthrobs.  He most lives who thinks most, feels the noblest, acts the best.” This was John, and we are a little safer knowing we  have another angel watching over the pack!
